What changes the price
System size (tonnage). Your AC has to be matched to your home’s square footage, layout, insulation, and our North Valley heat. Too small and it never keeps up; too big and it short-cycles and wears out early. Correct sizing is the single most important factor — and it’s why a real quote needs an in-home look.
Efficiency rating (SEER2). Higher-efficiency systems cost more up front but use less power every month. In a climate where the AC runs hard from June through September, that monthly savings adds up.
Single-stage vs. variable-speed. Basic single-stage units are the most affordable. Two-stage and variable-speed systems cost more and deliver steadier temperatures, quieter operation, and better efficiency.
Your ductwork. If your ducts are old, leaky, or undersized, repairs or modifications affect the total. Sometimes sealing ducts is the best money you’ll spend — a great system pushing air through bad ducts can’t perform.
AC vs. heat pump. A heat pump heats and cools in one system and may qualify for rebates and tax credits — worth comparing before you decide.
